1912 A Crucial Decision

Phi Delta Kappa (PDK) rejected a petition from Kappa Delta Pi to merge the two organizations. The reason given by PDK: "There will never be an opportunity to secure the admission of women. We believe that a real honor fraternity in education must . . . be confined to men. Women do not enter the work to make a profession of it, and they ought not." Because KDP has always believed that both genders have a rightful place in all levels of the profession, the two organizations have remained separate.
