Ivor Goodson, an influential educational writer on life history and curriculum studies, is Professor of Learning Theory at the University of Brighton, England. He has directed a wide range of research projects on computer education, teachers’ lives and careers, case histories of school and curriculum, environmental education, and racial ethnocultural minority teaching.

He has explored the construction of school subject knowledge and its relationship to social processes and has written a series of books that explore the curriculum as a site of social contestation and distribution. Alongside his work on curriculum, he has developed a range of qualitative methodologies focusing on life history approaches.

His books include Life History and Professional Development: Stories of Teachers’ Life and Work (2003); Professional Knowledge, Professional Lives: Studies in Education and Change (2003); and Life History Research in Educational Settings: Learning from Lives (2001).

Goodson recently received the first Michael Huberman Award for Outstanding Scholarship on the Lives of Teachers, which honors long-standing commitment to understanding the rich complexity of teachers’ lives.
