Author of: L. S. Vygotsky and Education (2014); The International Handbook of Research on Children’s Literacy, Learning and Culture (2013); Funds of Knowledge: Theorizing Practices in Households, Communities, and Classrooms (2005)

Since 1995, Dr. Luis C. Moll has been Professor in the Department of Language, Reading, and Culture in the College of Education, University of Arizona. His research focuses on the interconnections of culture, psychology, and education, particularly in relation to the education of Latino and Latina children in the United States, as well as bilingualism and literacy, sociocultural theory, and qualitative methods.

He was elected to membership in the Reading Hall of Fame in 2014 and the National Academy of Education in 1998. From the American Educational Research Association (AERA), Moll received the 2011 Palmer O. Johnson Award, and in 2010, the Presidential Citation Award. In 2009, he was named Fellow of AERA.

Among his other studies, Moll has analyzed the quality of classroom teaching, examined literacy instruction in English and Spanish, and studied how knowledge is produced in the broader social contexts of household and community life. His scholarship on “funds of knowledge” has redefined the field of education in helping teachers explore how to engage families in the education of their children and accessing these funds of knowledge in their curriculum and pedagogy.

Moll has given many distinguished lectures on these and related topics around the world. He has served as consulting editor and editor for numerous academic journals and has written or edited several books and chapters as well as authored journal articles. Dr. Moll was invited to the Laureate Chapter in 2013.
