Dr. Pasi Sahlberg is former Director General of the Centre for International Mobility and Cooperation at Finland’s Ministry of Education and Culture in Helsinki, and currently a visiting Professor of Practice at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education.

With expertise in school improvement, international education issues, classroom teaching and learning, and school leadership, Dr. Sahlberg has worked as a teacher, teacher educator, and researcher. He also has studied education systems and reforms around the world and advised governments internationally regarding education policy. In doing so, Sahlberg has had the welcome opportunity to work with some of the brightest minds in the world in the pursuit of global educational change.

Sahlberg is an international speaker and author who has given more than 300 keynote speeches and published over 100 articles, chapters, and books on education. His speaking engagements encompass talks on equity, social justice, and equality in education. His book Finnish Lessons: What Can the World Learn From Educational Change in Finland? won the 2013 Grawemeyer Award in Education. Sahlberg won the 2012 Education Award in Finland and the 2014 Robert Owen Award in Scotland. In 2013, he received First Class Knight of the White Rose in Finland.

In his career, Sahlberg has served the Finnish government in several positions and worked for the World Bank in Washington, DC. Along with his family, Dr. Sahlberg considers the students he teaches to be a most important part of his life.

Sahlberg joined the KDP Laureate Chapter in 2015.
