The Distinguished Teacher

The Distinguished Teacher is one who is truly gifted in his/her field. A distinguished teacher consistently exceeds expectations. Distinguished teachers usually have received local, state, and/or national recognition for their skill and devotion to teaching.

Distinguished teachers tend to expand their sphere of influence. They often:

  • establish district curriculum;
  • serve as consultants to state policy makers;
  • contribute to national educational associations, such as Kappa Delta Pi;
  • work as adjunct faculty for local colleges of education; and
  • serve as mentors for new teachers—supporting, facilitating, and nurturing the growth and development of new professionals.
