How to Participate

How to Participate
Joining the Literacy Alive! initiative is easy! Chapters can participate by hosting any event, project, or program that enhances the literacy skills of those participating. After the event or program is complete, simply submit the Literacy Alive! Collegiate Achievement Form to share your project’s success with Kappa Delta Pi.

Check out the Literacy Alive! resource section for past project ideas, tools to get started, and more!

Literacy Alive! Changes coming in 2017-2018
Kappa Delta Pi’s signature service initiative is taking the next step in its mission to engage and educate students around the world! In 2017, the focus is on program expansion and community partnership. What do we mean by this?

Program Expansion
Many chapters across the world are committed to their Literacy Alive! Projects, and it shows. We at Headquarters are constantly impressed with the thoughtful approach that countless members take to address the issues surrounding childhood literacy. No project is too big or too small. However, we are going to start taking a more critical look at the impact we are making through LA!, and we encourage each chapter to do the same. When you start to plan for your 2017 projects, consider how you can expand your current services. Consider what population isn’t being reached. Consider what needs aren’t being met.

There are many suitable ways to expand your LA! Programs.

Community Partnership
As teachers, creating strong partnerships across your community will greatly enhance your ability to serve your students. Likewise, Literacy Alive! Projects can be strengthened through collaboration as well. Many chapters have already begun to form strong partnerships throughout their communities. We have watched projects start as humble book drives and evolve into collaborations between schools, libraries, and non-profits.

This year, we will be recognizing unique projects with new Spotlight Awards. Categories include:
