Program: The Handyman’s Adopt-a-School Project

Chapter: Sigma Chi Chapter at the University of Scranton, PA
Level: Advanced
Materials:
• School
• Tools (may be provided by school)
• Carpentry supplies (may be provided by school)

How To:
1. Contact a local school or district and offer to help with any sort of physical labor or school improvement project (such as painting, hanging bulletin boards, landscaping, assembling playground equipment, etc.).
2. Keep in close contact with the school to plan weekly or monthly projects. Be sure to visit the school to make additional suggestions.
3. Encourage members to volunteer for projects specific to their strengths.
4. Consider inviting other community members to participate in specific tasks.
5. Complete projects with weekend work sessions.

Add a Twist:
• Contact local businesses to ask for supply donations.
• Contact local television stations and newspapers for additional coverage.
