How To:
1. Contact schools and newspapers to advertise daylong thematic activity stations.
2. Contact a local farm to provide ducklings for the day’s event.
3. Work together with faculty and KDP members to plan interdisciplinary projects based on the book Make Way for Ducklings. Activity stations might include ‘describe a duck’ writing, measuring and weighing ducks, feather painting, etc. Gather appropriate materials.
4. Encourage members to volunteer for a certain station or time period.
5. On the day of the event, while live ducks wander the yard, each KDP member should have a specific task, such as welcoming participants or interacting with children and parents.

Add a Twist:
Ducks are only one of an unlimited number of themes. Look to literature for more ideas. Other inspiring themes may come from The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats, The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, or even Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell.
Simplify plans to reading one book and presenting a related activity at a local library, after-school program, or children’s shelter.
