A Guide to Mentoring Students This mentoring guide, published on the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat site, informs and advises about mentoring students. Though not specific to a school setting, the guide discusses various components of mentoring that can be applicable in many settings. It explains what a mentor does, the qualities needed, and the benefits of mentoring. It even provides a sample agreement for mentors and mentees to sign. American Counseling Association (ACA) Home for the American Counseling Association, this site provides a blog on counseling, professional and student resources for all types counselors, not just school counselors. It’s a good site to visit to keep current in the field of counseling. American School Counselors Association (ASCA) Home to the professional organization for school counselors, from elementary to college level, the ASCA site provides resources, podcasts, and guidelines for school counselors. Some information areas are for members only. Grade levels: All Children’s Grief Education Association (CGEA) This online home for the CGEA offers a wide array of resources to help people meet the needs of grieving children and families. Educators, parents, and others will find information for specific types of grief and for handling various situations—from military deployment to suicide—as well as pages directed to children and teens. CGEA also provides online continuing education courses on grief. Counseling Outfitters This source of information for school counselors was created by the Co-Directors of the ERIC Clearinghouse on Counseling and Student Services. It offers free articles related to guidance and personal counseling, as well as links and descriptions to current books in the field of counseling.
